Computer Training “Reassuringly Costly?

Funny lady Linda Smith used to say, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.

Sad but true, until the recent credit crunch, everyone it seems bought into the view that Price is an indicator of quality, or “Let’s be honest, cheap equals crap. The media re-enforced the view – picture the luscious shots on the M&S ads, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. Conversely, the food shops low cost ranges were acknowledged by spendthrifts but most of us didn’t give a second glance.

In Computer courses, the high end “luxury market (surely they’re the best - if you can afford it - why else would they be so well known?) acknowledged that there are IT trainers around who’ll train less expensively but beware, it won’t be as good.

Then lo and behold, the economy is in tatters, and all at once value is all the rage! Many householders abandon Waitrose, and instead head towards Aldi and Lidl. City bankers and their fat profits are out of favour, and we all look more closely at our spending habits.

Maybe we’ve been taken in by paying higher prices? Further investigation into the UK training market, and maybe the big boys with their fancy prices are not all they seem. Just because there’s a great need for more skilled networking professionals and programmers, are we really getting a good deal coughing up over five thousand pounds to get qualified, or are these prices outdated? It’s a bit ironic that many computer training providers are behind the times - supplying students with pen and paper methods. Why do students have to wade through books when all information can be downloaded and watched on computers? Why should we drive to training centres, forking out for our overnights to support their overheads? Anytime Interactive support should be available for me when and where it works best for me – at my convenience, but not at my cost.

With more up-to-date, slicker training options on offer at a fraction of the cost of these prices, maybe it’s time we woke up to the fact that when it comes to electronic learning, value is higher quality for a more reasonable price. A new order is asserting itself in IT training – in the words used by supermarkets, it’s “Taste the Difference goods for “Basic prices. In this knowledge hungry world we’re living in, bring it on.
